Foundations Training at PURE Fitness-Who it’s for & Why we do it

New to CrossFit? Welcome to Pure Fitness — let's start you off right. Before joining regular classes, all new members complete our Foundations Program — a beginner series focused on teaching proper technique, building baseline fitness, and getting you comfortable with how our workouts run. It's how we make sure every member walks into their first class feeling confident and ready to crush it, regardless of fitness level.

Why CrossFit?

CrossFit offers comprehensive physical and mental benefits by combining high-intensity interval training (HIIT),strength training, & olympic weightlifting, tailored to any fitness level.

Key Benefits of CrossFit

  • Highly Effective Full-Body Workout: CrossFit combines varied, functional movements (like squats, dead lifts, and pushes) that improve overall strength, agility, flexibility and mobility.
  • Improved Cardiovascular Health: Regular CrossFit sessions, use high-intensity training to boost heart efficiency and stamina improving aerobic fitness.
  • Boosted Weight Loss and Metabolic Rate: Participants burn more calories than traditional weightlifting.
  • Scalability for All Fitness Levels: Workouts are tailored to meet individuals at their current ability, allowing beginners and experts to train side-by-side.
  • Improved Mobility and Functional Strength: Movements can mimic and improve daily life activities, reducing injury risks and improving longevity.
  • Mental Health and Motivation: The community-driven, team-like atmosphere improves accountability, mental health, and confidence.
  • Better Bone Density and Aging Management: Regular training supports bone health, lean muscle mass, and can counteract the effects of aging at any age!

The Myths VS Reality of CrossFit

You may have legitimate concerns but unrealistic fears about starting CrossFit. Our mission is to dispel your fears through individual coaching that meets your individual fitness level and goals.

Myths vs. Reality of CrossFit:

  • Myth: You need to be "in shape" to start.
    • Reality: CrossFit is designed to help increase your fitness, but you do not need to be in shape to begin. Workouts are tailored to meet you at your current fitness level.
  • Myth: It is dangerous and causes injuries.
    • Reality: When done with proper coaching, CrossFit is safe and focuses on functional movements. Injury rates are comparable to, or lower than, other fitness activities. The key is proper coaching, something we pride ourselves on at Pure Fitness.
  • Myth: It is only for young, elite athletes.
    • Reality: It is highly accessible for all ages, including seniors.
  • Myth: You will get "bulky" especially if you are a woman.
    • Reality: Strength training builds lean muscle, but achieving a very bulky physique requires specific, intense training and nutrition. Most women do not gain significant muscle mass per se but instead develop a leaner, stronger and more defined physique.
  • Myth: Technique is not prioritized.
    • Reality: Our coaches at Pure Fitness emphasize mechanics first, then consistency, and only then intensity.

Foundations Training

What Is It?

CrossFit Foundations (sometimes called an "On-Ramp" program) is an introductory training program designed specifically for people who are new to CrossFit. It is designed to safely transition new members, focusing on teaching the foundational CrossFit movements with an emphasis on proper technique and safe movement patterns.

How Long Does It Last?

The length varies, but it is typically, but not limited to a 4-week, 6-class program dedicated to those who need an "on-ramp" to CrossFit. At Pure Fitness we do require our Foundations Program to be completed first if you have 3 months or less of consecutive Crossfit experience. This is to ensure a good experience and overall safety for you the member.

What Do You Learn?

The program teaches the fundamental movements used in CrossFit, ensuring each movement is both mechanically sound, giving new members a comprehensive understanding of the CrossFit program. This typically includes but is not limited to:

  • Squats (air, front, back, overhead)
  • Olympic weightlifting basics (jerkt, clean, snatch)
  • Gymnastics movements (pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups)
  • How workouts (WODs) are structured and scaled
  • Box jumps

What Is the Philosophy Behind Foundations Training

The program emphasizes mechanics first, then consistency, then intensity — focusing on proper exercise mechanics and techniques at relatively light loads before gradually increasing intensity to drive adaptation. Our goal is for you to learn safe and proper technique while gradually increasing so you are stronger and more confident.

Who Is It For?

The program is designed for universal scalability, making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience or fitness level. Even people who have exercised for years but are new to CrossFit's specific movements need our Foundations Program.

What's the End Goal and How Pure Fitness Gets You There

By the end of Foundations Training, members enter regular classes feeling more prepared, less overwhelmed, and safely ready to train with confidence.

In short, think of Foundations as your personal guided introduction to CrossFit. Our coaches provide you with individual training until you are ready for regular CrossFit classes.
